European Parliament

Incoming:
Auke ZIJLSTRA (ENF, NL) officially joined the European Parliament as of 1 September, replacing Hans JANSEN. Mr ZIJLSTRA was an MEP from 2011 to 2014.

Members of the Committees, Subcommittees and the Delegations:
Stefano MAULLU (EPP, IT) joined the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) and the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (D-RU).

Karoline GRASWANDER-HAINZ (S&D, AT) joined the Committee on International Trade (INTA), the Delegation for relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil (D-BR), the Delegation for relations with Mercosur (D-MER) and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (D-LAT).

Nikolaos CHOUNTIS (GUE/NLG, EL) joined the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) and the Delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (D-RS).

Aymeric CHAUPRADE (ENF, FR) joined the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (D-ACP).

Florian PHILIPPOT (ENF, FI) left the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (D-ACP).

Substitutes of the Committees, Subcommittees and the Delegations:
Elisabetta GARDINI (EPP, IT) joined the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET).

Stefano MAULLU (EPP, IT) joined the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) and the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (D-ACP).

Elena GENTILE (S&D, IT) joined the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

Karoline GRASWANDER-HAINZ (S&D, AT) joined the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) and the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (D-ASE).

Sergio GUTIÉRREZ PRIETO (S&D, ES) left the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and joined the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).

Juan Fernando LÓPEZ AGUILAR (S&D, ES) joined the Committee on Development (DEVE), the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (D-ASE).

Eider GARDIAZABAL RUBIAL (S&D, ES) left the Committee on Development (DEVE).

Inmaculada RODRÍGUEZ-PIÑERO FERNÁNDEZ (S&D, ES) left the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Hannu TAKKULA (ALDE, FI) joined the Delegation for relations with Belarus (D-BY), the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand (D-ANZ) and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (D-EPA).

Nikolaos CHOUNTIS (GUE/NLG, EL) joined the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and the Delegation to the EU-Armenia and EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee (D-SCA).

Delegations:
The Delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council renamed to Delegation for relations with Palestine.

National parties:
Jean-Marie CAVADA (ALDE, FR) switched from independent to a member of ‘Generation citizens’, which he formed by himself following his resignation from the Nous Citoyens party in July.

Joachim STARBATTY (ECR, DE) switched from independent to member of the newly established Alliance for Progress and Renewal (ALFA).

Rapporteurs:
Julie WARD (S&D, UK) appointed rapporteur for the European Parliament on a key report on "the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in promoting EU fundamental values".


European Commission:

Cabinets:
Karmenu Vella’s team: Jürgen MÜLLER became the new Head of Cabinet, replacing Patrick COSTELLO. William NEALE is the new adviser, replacing Jürgen MÜLLER.

Directorate Generals:
Competition (COMP) - Directorate A: José Maria CARPI BADIA became the new Head of Mergers Case Support and Policy Unit, replacing Julia BROCKHOFF.

Economic and Financial Affairs (ECFIN) – Directorate F: Peter WEISS left his position as adviser.

Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (EMPL) - Directorate B: Jorg TAGGER became the new acting Head of Free Movement of Workers Coordination of Social Security Schemes Unit, replacing Antonella SCHULTE-BRAUCKS.

Environment (ENV) - Directorate A: Herbert AICHINGER left his position as adviser.
Directorate B: Stefan LEINER became the new acting Director, replacing Pia BUCELLA and the new Head of Bio-diversity Unit, replacing François WAKENHUT. Ernst SCHULTE left his position as Head of Forest Focus Sector. Michael O’BRIAIN became the new acting Head of Nature Unit, replacing Stefan LEINER.
Directorate E: Nicholas HANLEY became the new acting Director, replacing Timo MÄKELÄ.
Directorate F: François WAKENHUT became the new Head of Resource Efficiency and Economic Analysis Unit, replacing Carina VOPEL.

Eurostat (ESTAT) – Directorate B: Martina HAHN became the new Head of Methodology and Corporate Architecture Unit, replacing Roberto BARCELLAN.
Directorate G: Petra SNEIJERS became the new acting Head of Business Statistics – Coordination and Registers Unit, replacing Martina HAHN.

Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA): John BERRIGAN is the new acting Deputy Director-General. Olivier SALLES left his position as Head of Task Force for the establishment of the Single Resolution Board.
Directorate B: Martin ŠPOLC became the new Head of Economic analysis and evaluation Unit, replacing Elemér TERTÁK. Erik NOOTEBOOM became the new Head of Accounting and Financial Reporting Unit, replacing Valérie LEDURE.
Directorate D: Olivier SALLES is the new Head of Retail Financial Services and Payments Unit.

Spokesperson’s Service:

Foreign and Security Policy: Adam KAZNOWSKI became the new EEAS Press Officer, replacing Eamonn PRENDERGAST.
 

Permanent Representations:

Romania: Ambassador Luminiţa Teodora ODOBESCU is the new Permanent Representative effective 5 September, succeeding Mihnea Ioan MOTOC.

European Central Bank:

International and European Relations Directorate-General: Johannes LINDNER became the new Head of EU Institutions and For a Division Unit, replacing Lucas TER BRAAK.


European Agencies:

European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA): Ricardo GÉNOVA became the new Flight Standards Director, replacing Wilfried SCHULZ.

European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA): Alexis GOOSDEEL selected by the Management Board to become the new Director. Mr GOOSDEEL will take up his post on 1 January 2016, succeeding Wolfgang GÖTZ.


Public affairs:

Vattenfall: Helga NORRBY appointed ad the new Head of Brussels office as of 1 August, replacing Cecilia HELLNER.

French Federation for Retail and Trade (FCD): Alexandra BENNETT appointed as Head of Communications in Brussels office as of 17 August.  

European Crop Protection Association (ECPA): Ex-Communication Adviser for the European Commission Graeme Taylor appointed as Director of Public Affairs.

Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME): Michael COLE-FONTAYN elected as the new Chairman of the Board in succession to Frédéric JANBON.


News in a nutshell:

France: MEP Jean-Marie LE PEN (NI) announced the creation of a new political movement, called “Blue, White and Red”.

Hungary: Istvan SIMICSKO, Fidesz (EPP) appointed as the new Minister for Defence following the resignation of Csaba HENDE, Fidesz (EPP) over the refugee crisis.
