State of the Energy Union: Keep focus on consumers and innovation

In reaction to today's first report on the State of the Energy Union, delivered by Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, CECED highlights the key roles of European consumers and innovators in ensuring a strong and successful European energy policy.

Said Paolo Falcioni, Director-General of CECED: "Europe has its energy vision. It now needs the tools to take forward key Energy Union objectives: consumer information and participation in the energy market and innovation. Citizens, through their enhanced consumer and prosumer role, will be vital in delivering energy savings and keeping the balance between energy supply and demand that Europe needs. Innovators within the home appliance industry require a supportive, policy-friendly environment if they are to responding to the challenge of designing smart, innovative appliances that make future European homes not only more comfortable but ever more sustainable".

CECED also highlights the importance of creating the conditions on the ground to help investment in energy efficiency projects and using the Energy Union to boost European competitiveness.

Industry is ready to assist policy makers develop the framework that will be needed to make the Energy Union a reality. Home appliances can positively contribute to the Energy Union's five dimensions: energy efficiency, research, innovation and competitiveness; completion of the internal energy market; security of supply; decarbonised economy.

The home appliance industry reiterates its forward-looking vision of 200 million European households equipped with appliances that help drive down and better manage the supply and demand for energy.
