European Parliament:

Members of the Committees, Subcommittees and the Delegations:
Jasenko SELIMOVIC (ALDE, SE) joined the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and the Delegation for relations with Switzerland and Norway and to the EU-Iceland Joint Parliamentary Committee and the European Economic Area (EEA) Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-EEA).

Lola SÁNCHEZ CALDENTEY (GUE/NGL, ES) left the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (D-LAT) and the Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-MX) and joined the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN).

Estefanía TORRES MARTÍNEZ (GUE/NGL, ES) left the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) and joined the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (D-LAT) and the Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-MX).

Auke ZIJLSTRA (ENF, NL) left the Committee on Development (DEVE) and the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF).

Substitutes of the Committees, Subcommittees and the Delegations:
Theodor Dumitru STOLOJAN (EPP, RO) left the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and joined the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).

Mihai ŢURCANU (EPP, RO) left the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and joined the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

Marcel de GRAAFF (ENF, NL) left the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (D-ASE) and joined the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia (D-SAS).

Barbara KAPPEL (ENF, AT) left the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia (D-SAS) and joined the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (D-ASE).

Matteo SALVINI (ENF, IT) joined the Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-TR).

National parties:
Massimiliano SALINI (EPP, IT) left the New Centre-Right – Union of the Centre and joined Forza Italia.

 

European Commission:

Cabinets:
Corina Creţu’s team: Nicola DE MICHELIS appointed Head of Cabinet, replacing Mikel LANDABASO ALVAREZ.

Directorates General:
Migration and Home Affairs (HOME): Alain SCRIBAN appointed Principal Adviser.

Research and Innovation (RDT): Directorate B - Innovation Union and European Research Area: Peter DRÖLL appointed Director as of 16 October.

Regional and Urban Policy (REGIO): Directorate H - Inclusive Growth, Urban and Territorial Development and Northern Europe: Mikel LANDABASO ALVAREZ appointed acting Director.

 

European Economic and Social Committee (EESC): New mandate 2015-2020

Presidency 2015-2017:
Georgios DASSIS elected as the new President in replacement to Henri MALOSSE.

Michael SMYTH elected as Vice-President in charge of Budget, replacing Hans-Joachim WILMS and Gonçalo LOBO XAVIER elected as Vice-President in charge of Communication, replacing Jane MORRICE.

Sections:

Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion Section (ECO): Joost VAN IERSEL re-elected President

Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society Section (TEN): Pierre Jean COULON elected as President, replacing Stéphane BUFFETAUT.

Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship Section (SOC): Pavel TRANTINA became the new President.

Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment Section (NAT): Brendan BURNS elected as President replacing Dilyana SLAVOVA.

External Relations Section (REX): Dilyana SLAVOVA elected as President, replacing José María ZUFIAUR NARVAIZA.

Consultative Commission on Industrial Change Section (CCMI): Lucie STUDNIČNÁ elected as the New President, replacing Carlos TRIAS PINTÓ.

Single Market, Production and Consumption Section (INT): Martin SIECKER re-elected President.

Groups:
Group I Employers: Jacek KRAWCZYK re-elected President.

Group II Workers: Gabriele BISCHOFF elected as the new President, replacing Georgios DASSIS.

Group III Various Other Economic and Social Components of Organised Civil Society: Luca JAHIER re-elected President, Arno METZLER and Ariane RODERT re-elected Vice-Presidents. Benedicte FEDERSPIEL, Mindaugas MACIULEVIČIUS and Ioannis VARDAKASTANIS are the new Vice-Presidents.

 

European Court of Justice (ECJ):

Members' Order of Precedence:
On 8 October Koen LENAERTS (BE) elected as President, replacing Vassilios SKOURIS (EL) and Antonio TIZZANO (IT) as Vice-President for a three-year term, replacing Koen LENAERTS (BE).

Judges:
Marek SAFJAN (PL), François BILTGEN (LU), Siniša RODIN (HR), Allan ROSAS (FI), Küllike JÜRIMÄE (EE), Daniel ŠVÁBY (SK), Endre JUHÁSZ (HU), Lars BAY LARSEN (DK), Camelia TOADER (RO) and Marko ILEŠIČ (SI) took on their roles on 7 October for a further six years following the renewal of their mandate.

Michail VILARAS (EL) and Eugen REGAN (IE) took on their roles as judges on 7 October for a six-year term, replacing Vassilios SKOURIS (EL) and Aindrias Ó CAOIMH (IE) respectively.

Advocates-General:

Eleanor SHARPSTON (UK) and Juliane KOKOTT (DE) renewed in their roles as Advocates-General on 7 October for a further six years. Manuel CAMPOS SÁNCHEZ-BORDONA (ES) and Henrik SAUGMANDSGAARD ØE (DK) took on their roles as advocates-general on 7 October for a six-year term.

Pedro CRUZ VILLALÓN (ES) left his role as First advocate-general.

 

European Central Bank (ECB):

Administration Directorate-General: Niall MERRIMAN left his role as Head of Financial Reporting and Policy Division Unit.

Statistics Directorate-General: Remigio ECHEVERRÍA is the new Head of External Statistics Division Unit, replacing Francis GROSS.

 

European Stability Mechanism (ESM):

Françoise BLONDEEL became Member of the new position in the Management Board responsible for overseeing the Middle and Back Office and internal coordination.

 

European Agencies:

European Environment Agency (EEA): David STANNERS became the new acting Head of Partnerships and Networks Programme, replacing Peder JENSEN.

 

Permanent Representations:

Portugal: HE Nuno BRITO is the new Permanent Representative to the EU as of 6 October, succeeding Ambassador Domigos FEZAZ VITAL.

Hungary: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Olivér VÁRHELYI succeeded HE Péter GYÖRKÖS as Permanent Representative and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Tibor STELBACZKY became the new Deputy Permanent Representative, replacing Olivér VÁRHELYI. Ambassador Alex RUSZ became the new PSC Permanent Representative, replacing Károly GRÚBER. All changes are effective as of 1 October.

 

Public affairs:

European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC): Rudy DE LEEUW elected as President and Luca VISENTINI as General Secretary.

European Plastics Converters Association (EuPC): launched three new taskforces. Sustainability & Vision, Communications and Policy coordination. Jürgen BRUDER, Françoise GERARDI and Francisco MORCILLO will be chairing respectively. Padraig NOLAN, who was appointed as the new Packing Division Manager, succeeding Ingrid VERSCHUEREN will be in charge of coordinating the new Taskforces.

 

News in a nutshell:

Croatia: President Kolinda GRABAR-KITAROVIĆ, Independent called a parliamentary election for 8 November.

Portugal: Prime Minister Pedro Passos COELHO's right-wing coalition (Social Democratic Party (EPP) and Democratic Social Centre - People's Party (EPP)) won the elections, but lost the parliamentary majority, meaning that he needs to seek support from other parties. Coalition talks are ongoing.

Greece: The government of Prime Minister Alexis TSIPRAS, Syriza (GUE/NGL) won a confidence vote on Thursday 8 October.

Denmark: Peter CHRISTENSEN, Venstre (ALDE) became the new Defence Minister, following the resignation of Carl Holst, Venstre (ALDE) over misuse of public funds scandals.
