Issue 507 | 16 December 2019

This issue we have Peter Pollák, the first Slovak MEP of Roma origin, as our cover star. He gives us an insight into his opinions on Roma integration in the EU and tells us about how he plans to use his European platform to raise awareness of the plight of Roma people and strengthen their rights across the EU.

In our special Health & Wellbeing feature, German S&D MEP Tiemo Wölken discusses a European approach to health technology assessment, Finnish S&D deputy Miapetra Kumpula-Natri tells us why Europe needs an ‘economy of wellbeing’ and Finnish EPP member Sirpa Pietikäinen talks to us about how Europe can tackle asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

We also have a special feature on the EU’s Central Asia Strategy, with MEPs Atidzhe Alieva-Veli, Fulvio Martusciello and Andris Ameriks sharing their views on how the EU can improve its relations with Central Asian states such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Also in this issue: MEPs share their thoughts on the upcoming Croatian presidency of the EU and the newly-installed European Commission as well as the unveiling of Ursula von der Leyen’s European Green Deal.

We also recap the City of London Corporation’s ‘Women in Finance’ event, the European Payment Institutions Federation’s (EPIF) annual conference, the EIT Health Summit 2019, and more.

Finally, answering our five questions this issue is Spanish EPP MEP Isabel Benjumea.
