ECR deputy Assita Kanko is our latest cover star. In the midst of the Coronavirus crisis she shares her thoughts on Europe’s response to the pandemic and how the European Union can emerge from this critical period a stronger, wiser and more unified force.

In our main feature on the impact of COVID-19 on the transport sector, we hear from European Commissioner for Transport Adina-Ioana Vălean, chair of Parliament’s Sky and Space Intergroup Marian-Jean Marinescu (RO, EPP), and two vice-chairs of Parliament’s Transport and Tourism committee István Ujhelyi (HU, S&D) and Jan-Christoph Oetjen (DE, RE).

We also take look at short-time work schemes and how the EU is looking to assist Member States in providing income replacement for workers who have had to reduce or suspend their work during the Coronavirus crisis, featuring European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and Parliament’s rapporteur on employment and social policies of the euro area, Yana Toom (ET, RE).

Also in this issue: Parliament’s Budgets committee opinion rapporteur on the Just Transition Fund Siegfried Mureşan (RO, EPP) focuses on  the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the EU’s growth strategy, Head of Unit responsible for Digital Finance in the European Commission’s DG FISMA Jan Ceyssens discusses digital finance, plus European Parliament Vice-President Dimitrios Papadimoulis (EL, GUE/NGL) looks back at the remarkable life and career of “the first European partisan”, Manolis Glezos.

MEPs Sarah Wiener (AT, Greens/EFA), Nicolae Ștefănuță (RO, RE) and Tiemo Wölken (DE, S&D) discuss the aims of the new MEP Interest Group on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), while secretary general and CEO of New Europeans, Roger Casale, gives a fascinating glimpse into life in Italy under the Coronavirus lockdown. The thorny question of Brexit rears its head once again, as David McAllister (DE, EPP), Chair of both the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the UK Coordination Group, examines the prospect of a Brexit transition period extension.

Finally, answering our five questions this issue is Spanish Greens/EFA MEP Ernest Urtasun.
