Interview with Marietje Schaake, EU aviation strategy, Common Fisheries Policy, GMOs, ETS reform and the fertilizer industry and more
Marietje Schaake is on our cover this week, with an exclusive interview on Syria, the refugee crisis, TTIP and safe harbour. The Dutch MEP was strongly critical of the EU’s role in ending the conflict in the Middle East saying, “it is appalling to see how little the EU has done to end the war in Syria.” She also offered her support for TTIP saying the EU and the US need to “take a lead in setting standards by not only framing trade in a rules based system but also ensuring people and the planet are duly considered.” Elsewhere in the magazine we hear from the EU transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, MEPs who contributed to the European Parliament’s first civil drones report and Parliament’s shadow rapporteurs on the new common fisheries policy.
Bioplastics are a key element in Europe’s transition to a low-carbon, circular economy, writes Hasso von Pogrell
Free trade and open markets are important, but they are only free and open when everyone plays by the rules, argues Gerd Götz.
MEPs have the chance to support innovation and evidence-based authorisation procedures when they meet next week in Strasbourg, says Pedro Narro Sanchez.
