La Rentrée, Scottish independence, EU top jobs, Russia sanctions and more...

EPP group chair Manfred Weber kicks off our La Rentrée feature by saying that MEPs need "to show European citizens that we are up to the responsibility given to us". The German deputy urges parliamentarians to "win back citizens trust" by "getting the EU institutions on their feet and ready to work as soon as possible". According to S&D group chair Gianni Pitella, "We all need more Europe and a move from European voices to European action." Meanwhile, ECR group chair Syed Kamall writes, "Our ability to rise to all other challenges depends on our ability to build prosperous national economies,"
and ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt urges the EU to become "more dynamic, more transparent and more responsive".
