The December edition of The Parliament Magazine is now available to read online for free

Hello and welcome to another edition of The Parliament.

One of the most wonderful aspects of living and working in Europe is the wide variety of food and drink on offer in a continent with palates as varied as its people. So we decided to take this as our theme for this month’s magazine – and, as the resulting articles show, what we consume turns out to be both serious business and a lot of fun.

We have a wide variety of features, interviews and opinions reflecting this, including Gabriel Rosana’s fascinating deep dive into the wonderful world of edible insects (we have to admit we’re not yet converts) and Laura Lamberti’s investigation into what some say is the EU Farm to Fork Strategy’s failure to protect agricultural workers. In a fun interview, Sean Craig discovers what makes former food equality activist turned MEP Leila Chaibi tick.

Elsewhere in the magazine, we continue to bring you new columns, with this edition launching Meet The Press, the first step in our bold ambition to introduce you to every member of the world press covering the EU. First up is Rikhard Husu, Brussels correspondent for the Finnish public broadcaster Yle, who tells us about Prime Minister Sanna Marin and his national dish of pea soup and pancakes.

Also keeping with the mood, Signature Dish sees French MEP Iréne Tolleret tuck into salt cod and potato brandade, and in EU AMA we find out the hottest item in the Parlamentarium gift shop.

Elsewhere in the magazine, we bring you the fascinating story of Brussels Affirmations – the Instagram page which staffers are using to hold their bosses to account for poor treatment – and in our topical op-eds we have comment on the protests in Iran from RadosÅ‚aw Sikorski and the recent Israeli elections, among other issues.
