The French Renew Europe Group MEP talks to Rajnish Singh about the increasing security threats to Europe, the rise of China, and what she terms “disturbing” tensions between the EU and the UK, post-Brexit.

In our accompanying EU Security Policy feature, the chair of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister argues that the COVID-19 outbreak has highlighted the need for a more united EU foreign policy and calls for the development of a fully-fledged European Defence Union.

The chair of Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, however, focusses more security as a fundamental right of European citizenship, arguing that the Parliament’s recent Resolution on the Commission’s proposals for a new EU security strategy “conveys the message that EU security policy must be grounded in the common values upon which the EU was founded”.
