Digital Enablement: Bridging the Digital Divide to Connect People and Society
Huawei has commissioned an extensive study into the barriers, challenges and opportunities around digital enablement. This examines how we achieve long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits to enhance social development, growth, and to allow citizens to fulfil their true potential.
The launch will be hosted by Nicola Caputo MEP who will speak alongside a senior representative from Huawei on the findings of the report.
New technologies possess extraordinary power to transform, empower and do good; empowering people and transforming communities. However, as the Millennium Development Goals report noted, “Mobile-cellular and Internet penetration rates have grown strongly, but the digital divide between the rich and the poor is growing.” Up to 1 billion people are unconnected, whilst only a third of those living in emerging economies use the internet.
Bridging the digital divide can deliver many things to different people - some will benefit from better access to healthcare, others will enjoy safer transport, profit from greater productivity, or cherish improved education.
We would be delighted if you could join to launch the report, so that you can hear first the findings and recommendations. Places are limited, so please RSVP to email@example.com as soon as possible if you can attend this breakfast meeting.
