National Front: The French Court cancelled on 2 July the suspension of Jean-Marie LE PEN (NI, FR) as a member of the far-right party. Le Pen remains a member and an Honorary President of the party.

Legal Service (SJ): Paolo STANCANELLI became the State Aids and Dumping Principal Legal Adviser, replacing Vittori DI BUCCI.

Internal Audit Service (IAS) – Directorate A: Monika CHABA left her position as Head of Administrative Coordination and Communication Unit.

Mobility and Transport (MOVE) – Directorate A: Barbara JANKOVEC became the new Head of Legal matters and infringements Unit, replacing Jan SCHERP.

Office for Infrastructure and Logistics - Brussels (OIB) – Department OS: Pierre-Olivier BINDELS became the new acting Head of Support services, Logistics Unit, replacing Frank BRADY.

Trade (TRADE) - Directorate D: Sandra GALLINA became the new Sustainable Development; Economic Partnership Agreements for the African, Caribbean and Pacific region; Agri-food and Fisheries Director, replacing Marc VANHEUKELEN.

Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD) – Directorate B: Pierre-Jacques LARRIEU became the new Head of Protection of Citizens and Enforcement of IPR Unit, replacing Caroline EDERY.

- Directorate C: Caroline EDERY became the new Head of Tax administration and fight against tax fraud Unit, replacing Thomas CARROLL.

- Directorate R: Stephane MAIL FOUILLEUL became the new Head of Human Resources and Finances Unit, replacing Jean-Louis VERGNOLLE.

Translation (DGT) – Directorate S: David BAKER became the new Head of Editing Unit, replacing Roslyn BOTTONI.

Secretariat-General (SG): Marianne KLINGBEIL became the Director-General of the newly established Regulatory Scrutiny Board.

Martinus VERWEY became the Director-General of the new Structural Reform Support Service, following the end of mandate of the Task Force for Greece and the Support Group for Cyprus on 30 June.

Henrik HOLOLEI, Deputy Secretary-General is now in charge of Directorate B (Institutional and Administrative Policies), C (Smart Regulation and Work Programme), D (Policy Co-ordination I) and E (Policy Co-ordination II), instead of Directorate F (Relations with other institutions) and Protocol Service he was previously.


Council of the European Union

General Secretariat:

Jeppe TRANHOLM-MIKKELSEN (ex-Permanent Representative of Denmark to the EU) officially took over from Uwe CORSEPIUS as Secretary-General on 1 July.

Directorate D (Justice and Home Affairs): Christine ROGER became the new Director-General on 1 July, replacing Rafael FERNANDEZ.

Foreign Policy Team: Alina BUTULIGA became the new acting Advisor, replacing Zuzana MICHALCOVÁ ŠUTIAKOVA (on maternity leave).

EUFORES: Claude TURMES (Greens/EFA, LU) re-elected as President and Theresa GRIFFIN (S&D, UK) and Jeppe KOFOD (S&D, DK).

European airports’ trade association Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE): Augustin DE ROMANET elected President on 26 June for a two-year mandate.

European Building Automation and Controls Association (eu.bac): Jean Daniel NAPAR elected as President, succeeding Jean Yves BLANC.

European network of transmission system operators for electricity (ENTSO-E): Ben VOORHORST, TenneT's Chief Operations Officer appointed as Vice-Chair of the Board.

FoodDrinkEurope: Gilles MOREL, Regional President Europe & Eurasia of MARS Chocolate, elected as President, succeeding Jesús SERAFIN PERÉZ.

European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP): Alexander VAN DEN BOSCH appointed as the new Director, succeeding Kathrin OBST, who joined the European Commission as a Press Officer in DG MOVE.

Copa-Cogeca: Charles SERCOMBE elected as Chairman of the Sheepmeat Working Group for a two-year mandate.


News in a nutshell

Denmark: has a new minority single-party government. Lars LØKKE RASMUSSEN, Liberal party (Venstre) (ALDE) assumed the role of the Prime Minister. Claus HJORT FREDERIKSEN became the new Minister for Finance and Kristian JENSEN the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Luxembourg: took the reins of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July.

Estonia: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Keit PENTUS-ROSIMANNUS, Reform Party (ALDE) resigned amid the Autorollo scandal.

Plenary session: MEPs are heading to Strasbourg from Monday 6 to Thursday 9 July.
